| Here are some examples of the programming work we've done:
We've helped United Way of Greater Los Angeles run a contest online that collected corporate sponsor leads. We were involved in all aspects of design and production, including server setup, mass mailings, database design and custom programming. Hollywood and Highland, a large Hollywood entertainment complex wanted to re-design their website using Flash and collect information from visitors from all over the world. However, at the time, Flash was limited in its ability to present the user with hundreds of choices (countries) on one form. We helped the designer bypass the limits of Flash using custom software and updated the client's database so that it could handle international entries. Sequoia Capital, a venture capital firm, wanted to streamline the time-consuming process of collecting financial and contact information from their portfolio companies. We set up a server that would help them request the information, track responses, validate and store data received and create easy to read reports. ABC / Touchstone / Disney wanted to spread the word about their new TV show. We helped them create a virtual world that enriched the fans experience by providing them with clues about upcoming episodes. We set up several web/ftp/mail servers and virtual characters (Java chatbots) that disclosed information not available in the weekly episodes. This fostered several other fan websites and Yahoo! groups where the online game and the TV show were discussed. We have helped several marketing departments track the success of online promotions. An engineering firm (Safe Environment Engineering) specializing in safety monitoring products wanted to make their dealers' contact information available to the public. The problem was that their dealer database was organized based on counties, but most users are used to dealer locators that use ZIP codes. We bridged that gap using custom software and data from the US Postal Service to map individual zip codes to counties and rebuilt their database based on zip codes. Sequoia Capital, a venture capital firm, wanted to redesign their website but wasn't sure how visitors used it. We wrote and installed tracking programs and analyzed their web logs to discover usage patterns. We were then able to inform them of design and organization changes needed to let visitors find the information they wanted. A Wine web magazine came to us when their online database of wines and ratings had been destroyed and they had no backup. We creating a web crawler that went through their static pages (originally created by the database), analyzed them for patterns, extracted the data and entered it into a new database. We provided several companies with customized content management systems they could use to update content on their websites. We created custom web traffic log analysis software that accurately measures the number of visitors, how they arrive to a website (search engines, directories, links, etc.), what they do on a website and what paths they take through the content before they leave. We've used the data gathered by the software to help determine a site's usability, any needed changes and the best information architecture to meet user's needs. |
